Text to flowchart converter
Paste a paragraph or a list. Every sentence becomes a step and every “If …, …” becomes a decision, instantly and in your browser. Messy notes? Let the AI read them.

How to write steps
- One step per line. Lines connect top to bottom.
- End a line with
?to make a decision. Indent the answers under it:yes: Ship it,no: Refund. - Indent more lines under an answer to continue that branch.
-> Step namejumps back to an earlier step (a loop).no -> Step nameworks inside a decision.Start,End,DoneorStopbecome rounded start/end shapes.- Shape tags:
[input][output][doc][db][sub][manual][delay]. lane: Saleson its own line puts the next steps in a swimlane.- Or paste Mermaid code starting with
flowchart TD. It’s detected automatically. - Shortcuts: Tab indents, Ctrl/⌘ S downloads PNG, Ctrl/⌘ Shift S downloads SVG.

It follows a few plain rules, so you can predict the result and nudge it:
- Each sentence is one box, in the order written.
- “If X, Y.” becomes a diamond X? with Y on the yes arrow.
- An “Otherwise …” or “Else …” sentence straight after it becomes the no arrow. Without one, “no” skips to the next step.
- Openers like “Then”, “Next” and “Finally” are dropped from the box label.
- A Start and an End are added for you.
Text that doesn’t follow that pattern, like meeting notes, a policy page or an email thread, is where Convert with AI earns its keep: it finds decisions hidden in words such as “unless” and “anything older than”.
Write text that converts cleanly
- One action per sentence, starting with who or what acts.
- Put conditions first: “If the payment fails, retry” rather than “Retry if the payment fails”.
- Name both outcomes of every decision, even if one is “do nothing”.
- Reuse the exact wording when a step happens again. In the editor,
-> step namedraws a loop back to it.

Questions people ask
How can I convert text into a flowchart?
Paste the text above and press Convert instantly. Each sentence becomes a step, and sentences that start with “If …,” become a yes/no decision (an “Otherwise …” sentence right after it becomes the “no” branch). For messy notes or long documents, use Convert with AI, which reads the meaning rather than the sentence shapes.
Can ChatGPT make a flowchart?
ChatGPT can write Mermaid code, which is a text description of a flowchart, but you still need something to draw it. Paste that code into the editor on this page (it starts with flowchart TD) and it renders immediately. Or skip the round trip and use the AI button here, which produces Mermaid and draws it in one step.
How do I turn a numbered or bulleted list into a flowchart?
Paste the list straight into the flowchart maker. Numbers like “1.” and bullets like “-” are stripped, and each line becomes a box connected to the next. Add a line ending in “?” wherever the process branches.
How do I convert text to a flowchart in Word?
Word can turn a bulleted list into a straight process with SmartArt (Insert → SmartArt → Process), but it cannot draw decisions. Convert the text here instead, then insert the PNG or SVG; see flowchart in Word.
Is the text sent anywhere?
The instant converter runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing. Only the AI button sends your text, to the model via Vercel AI Gateway, and FlowBuilder does not store it.
